Pastor Vernona (Nona) Colbert is a Licensed Local Pastor appointed to Lanham United Methodist Church in Lanham, MD in July 2022. From 2017 until her appointment to Lanham, Pastor Colbert was the Pastor of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Sunderland, MD. Pastor Colbert served as a Strategist with the Southern Region on the staff of the Baltimore Washington Conference from 2013-2017, providing resources and coaching to churches in the Washington East and Annapolis District. She continues to work with the Southern Region as a Consultant and with the Conference as a coach. Pastor Colbert has been the Chair of the Conference Leadership Development Committee since 2019. From 2011 to 2014 Pastor Colbert served as President of the United Methodist Women for the Washington East District. Before accepting her calling to serve, Pastor Colbert worked for over 20 years in law firms as an attorney recruiter. Pastor Colbert began her career as an administrative assistant in public television and continued in various positions in the Federal Government, which earned her a position on the Domestic Policy Staff of the White House in the Administration of former President Jimmy Carter. Pastor Colbert is married and has 2 adult children, 5 children of the heart who have blessed her and her husband with 25 grandchildren (11 boys and 14 girls), 11 great grandchildren, 1 Miniature Pinscher, and a host of family, extended family and friends. Pastor Colbert holds a bachelor’s degree with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Human Resource Management from Strayer University and is currently enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at Wesley Theological Seminary. Her favorite Scripture is Joshua 1:5-9.
