About Rev. Dr. K. A. Slayton Sr.
Dr. Slayton embodies the values and spirit of the elders that raised him to show respect for all of God’s people. After several years serving in the non-profit sector and legislative arena working to address the needs of countless individuals living on the margins of society, he accepted his calling to preach the gospel. For the past twelve years he has combined his passion for public policy and prophetic preaching to impact the lives of so many. And although he’s sat at the table with many of this nation’s most influential leaders in public and private life at his core he will always be the voice of that little boy growing up on E. 9th Street in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Being one of the first in his family to attend college Dr. Slayton received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics from Alabama A&M University. He went own to acquire a Master of Divinity degree from Howard University in Washington, DC and a doctorate from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York. Whether it was as Public Policy Director for the Public Justice Center, Program Officer with Associated Black Charities or as lead consultant with his own firm, the Slayton Group, Dr. Slayton as never wavered in his commitment to the pursuit of justice and equality.
Dr. Slayton thanks God everyday for bringing his wife, Diya into his life. Together they serve the congregation and community of East Baltimore where he has been blessed to serve as the senior pastor of the DC suburbs, Lanham United Methodist Church..
